Last Tuesday The Frugal Mrs. Thompson and I attended a dinner put on by the North Carolina Family Policy Council. The keynote speaker was a man by the name of Roger Severino. Severino, the son of Columbian immigrants, is an American success story. He grew up in poverty, but made his way through the University of Southern California, Carnegie Mellon University, and Harvard Law School.
Severino has dedicated his career to promoting and defending religious liberty. From January 2017 to January 2021, Severino was Director of the Office for Civil Rights in the Trump Administration. This office is a part of the United States Justice Department.
In his speech, Severino recounted where the Office for Civil Rights was under Trump, where it is going now, and what the future looks like. The Trump administration was committed to religious liberty, pro-life issues, and traditional sex roles. In a matter of a few months, the Biden Administration has reversed many of these policies. This Administration will continue to do so until different people are elected to office that will force change within the bureaucracy.
Severino’s office comprises one small part of one department within a behemoth federal government. Every single regulatory agency is working overtime to reverse the conservative policies President Donald Trump implemented during his four years in office.
The next time you hear someone say, “They are all the same, Democrats and Republicans,” don’t believe them. Elections matter.
During the 2016 campaign, a group known as “never-Trumpers” came into existence. This group is made up of self-identified Republicans and/or conservatives that would not support Donald Trump for President under any circumstances. After Trump was elected, these same clowns spent the next four years working hard to bring us Joe Biden.
Biden has been president for less than nine months, and it has been an unmitigated disaster. During this time, gas prices have soared, and we are looking at general inflation throughout the economy. But don’t worry, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has given us comfort by pointing out that long-term inflation will still be referred to as “transitory.”
Our foreign policy is a mess. Our enemies are laughing at us, and our allies are worried about what we are doing.
We have authoritarians running around demanding that everyone get vaccinated for COVID-19. They are ignoring the risks of taking the shot, especially for young people. They are ignoring the risk of the disease among healthy young people, which is a statistical zero. All the while they yell “follow the science” with furrowed brow, righteous indignation, and a hammer and sickle patch on the shoulder.
So how are you never-Trumpers feeling now? One year ago today the economy was on the upswing, inflation was under control, Trump was filling the federal judiciary with originalist judges, and America’s interests were promoted abroad.
Yes, Trump is a boorish, narcissistic, ego maniac. Yes, I rolled my eyes every time I looked at his tweets. But Trump was not my pastor, counselor, or public relations advisor. He was my president. The policies he promoted put this country in a good place. Had the never-Trumpers voted for Donald Trump, we would not be where we are today. If you are a conservative or Republican who refused to vote for Donald Trump, you should be ashamed of yourself. You have done great damage to this country, which will not be reversed for years or decades, if ever. Nicely done.
Thanks Dave! I couldn’t agree more!!
